About

Who builds WHSMACON, and why.

What this site is

WHSMACON is the personal site of Walter H Sanders — a developer who builds software and puts the useful bits online for anyone to use. It collects two kinds of things: a set of free, browser-based developer utilities (Base64 and JSON tools, a UUID generator, a password generator, regex testing, hashing, and more), and the apps I've shipped over the years across iOS, Android, macOS, and the web, including DeadSpread, legitWeather, KOCaffeine, and Klaar.

The tools

Every utility on this site is free and runs entirely in your browser. There's no account to create, nothing to install, and — for the client-side tools like the password and UUID generators — nothing you type is ever sent to a server. They exist because these are the small jobs I reach for constantly while building software, and a fast, no-nonsense web tool beats hunting for one every time. Each tool page also includes a plain-language explainer of the concept behind it, so the site doubles as a quick reference.

The apps

Alongside the tools, WHSMACON is home to the consumer and developer apps I've released. DeadSpread is a music app for jam band fans that highlights groups such as the Grateful Dead and Widespread Panic, available on the App Store, Google Play, Amazon, and the web. legitWeather is a weather app for iOS and Android with a map, daily and hourly forecasts, and saved locations. For macOS, KOCaffeine is a keep-alive utility with extensive options, and Klaar is an application remover that also handles developer toolchains. Links to all of them live in the navigation above and on the home page.

How the site is funded

The tools are free to use. To help cover hosting costs, some pages display advertising. The site uses cookies and third-party advertising partners as described in the Privacy Policy. Your use of the site is governed by the Terms of Service.
